FAQ's/Tech Support

Q. How can I tell what version of DirectX I have?
A. The DxDiag program found in the directory C:\Program Files\DirectX\Setup will tell you.

Q. How can I tell if DirectX is installed on my computer?
A. The most surefire way to tell is to start at My Computer icon, then go to the C Drive, Program Files, DirectX. If you see the DirectX directory, it was installed at one time.

Q. How can I tell if my video card is installed and will use DirectX Hardware Acceleration?
A. From the desktop, right click to bring up the Display Properties window, then go to Settings and click on the Advanced button. You should see an entry for the video card that talks about the Direct 3D and Direct Draw support.

Q. I have a Video Accelorator card, it does not help me see the chart?
A. This card probably does not support DirectX Hardware Acceleration. Please see the manufacturers website of the card for more information.

Q. How much memory should a video card have?
A. This depends on the screen size you are using. The following chart shows how much memory is needed.

640x4801.2 meg or really 2 meg
800x6001.9 meg or really 2 meg
1024x7683.2 meg or really 4 meg
1280x10245.2 meg or really 8 meg
1600x12007.7 meg or really 8 meg

Q. I see the graph, but the people are larger that they should be, the text is upside down and the text is only on the back side of the person object. What is wrong?
A. The person object that is loaded in has become corrupt, reinstall the software.

Q. I get a message saying the "DirectDrawClipper did not have enough memory". What does that mean?
A. This means that the memory on your video card was not large enough to handle the number of people in you chart and program will automatically run using just the main CPU on the motherboard. The graph will still display, but it might take a little longer to move around the graph.

Q. Is there any way I can get rid of the "DirectDrawClipper did not have enough memory".
A. You can either select less people to see or upgrade your video card hardware.

Q. When the graph screen shows up, there is no tree displayed. What can I do to fix this?
A. The problem is probably DirectX in HAL mode.
When you get to the graph screen, there should be a 3D Options menu item. There should be Direct3D HAL and RGB emulation items. Direct3D is the default that uses the video card for hardware acceleration. The RGB emulation option draws the graph via software processing only and is much slower. If that works, then there is some DirectX 3D compatibility issues on your PC. You can use the DirectX diagnostics program called DXDIAG to run tests on the Display subsystem to check for problems.
If you run DXDIAG and can not see the problem, you can send us the output from DXDIAG so we can help you further. .

Q. My question was not answered here, how can I get an answer?
